Jacques Gramser’s experience as a jury member of IF Design.

The IF Design Award is one of the world’s most prestigious design awards. An independent jury of international design experts meets to determine award-winning designs, based on a set of objective screening standards. For the next 4 years, Jacques has been selected to fulfill the role of a jury member. He shares his experience below.

Jacques Gramser: In 2017, I was selected as a jury member of the prestigious iF DESIGN Award. IF has once again given me the honor of judging this year’s edition. Being a jury member and judging the work of so many fellow designers is a responsible and enjoyable task.

Besides the many new international contacts in the field of design, it has also given me good insights into the way of thinking and approach of my fellow jury members. I am therefore delighted to be a member of the jury again this year. I even got the honor of being a group leader of a jury team for the next three years. The judging process starts next week. First, an online pre-selection and the final selection will take place in Berlin around March.

What does IF Design Awards?

Founded in 1953 as Die Gute Industrieform e.V., iF Design and the iF DESIGN AWARD have been a symbol of excellent design around the world ever since. Every year, an international jury panel of 100 independent experts honors achievements in product, packaging, communication and service design, architecture and interior architecture as well as professional concept, UX and UI.

Online pre-selection

Jacques: A short update on my experience as a jury member for iF DESIGN 2022. The pre-selection went smoothly and led to lively, but above all inspiring discussions. In our assigned category, we judged many interesting and diverse entries. Together with my fellow jury members Britta Pukall & Raffaella Perrone, we succeeded in making a thorough selection of all entries.

Many thanks to the IF team (Toby Keni and colleagues) for guiding us through the first part of the jury journey. I would also like to compliment the online ‘tool’ in which judging is done, IF has built a solid and very well-functioning online application.

I am really looking forward to the end of March. Then, in Berlin, we will physically admire and assess the products that have passed the pre-selection.
